Hello, I am Lucien, the 17-year-old President and CEO of Wood by Lucien.

For almost a decade, I have been fascinated with business. Being homeschooled for the past five years has given me boundless opportunities to learn about business by doing business. As a child of the 21st century, I have absorbed knowledge by immersing myself in the online and local woodworking community. I started in the corner of our garage with a few primitive tools. Now my workspace has been transformed into a meticulously organized, state-of-the-art 200 ft² shop with advanced dust collection and both power and hand tools, the vast majority of them purchased with the proceeds from woodworking projects. What sets me apart is my attention to detail. By carefully selecting lumber, matching grain, and accounting for seasonal wood movement, I design and create pieces that are functionally beautiful.

When I’m not woodworking, you will find me playing the cello, climbing the NW hills of Portland, Oregon on my bike, smashing aces on the tennis court, cooking in the kitchen, designing anything from furniture to interior spaces, photographing landscapes both urban and natural, or creating new entrepreneurial opportunities.

From eco-friendly finishes to local salvaged lumber, I am committed to preserving the environment. 10 trees are planted for every Wood by Lucien product sold. I use lumber from trees native to the Pacific Northwest whenever it’s available. My tools, the heating and cooling in my shop, and my delivery vehicle are all powered by 100% renewable electricity. Whenever they are available, I purchase materials locally to cut down on emissions created by shipping. I reuse scraps and cut-off pieces of lumber in all my cutting boards. For products that have the remotest contact with food, I make my own blend of pharmaceutical-grade mineral oil and beeswax from local apiaries. I am proud to have a sustainable business.
